"Unexpected Ejection."

Mike is shown just after he was ejected. Note his hands are at his knees, not on the ejection handle nor on the face curtain.

When the F8 came back to the ground, the nose gear collapsed and the bird slid forward, through the barbed-wire fence. In doing so, the nose cone went under the top strand of barbed wire. The fence's top wire - under tension - slid up the nose, over the windscreen, and into the cockpit where (inches above Mike's head) it caught and pulled the Martin-Baker Mk. F-5 face curtain - starting the ejection sequence.
