The prototype and very early production McDonnell F4H aircraft were equipped with this McDonnell-designed ejection seat. This seat was an outgrowth of the earlier seats used in the F2H and F3H aircraft. One unusual feature of note is the calf protector that is deployed under the seat pan on ejection. The seat used a backpack style parachute.
